TWD: Chocolate Whopper Malted Drops

I was so looking forward to this one...but, sadly, I was disappointed. I think the fault may be mine.....I skipped the cocoa since I used chocolate Ovaltine in the batter, and I think I may have overmixed. Ugg loved them, and I barely had time to get a picture before he was inhaling them! Maybe it's just me.

This week was brought to you by Rachel at Confessions of a Tangerine Tart. As I said, I was really looking forward to it. I would page by this recipe pretty often, and think, "I can't wait until someone chooses THESE!"

Alas, I suppose they weren't meant to be. Though, I will be scouring the stores for "regular" malted milk powder, in order to try them the "right" way.....and probably less mixing.

Mine came out awfully flat....as I said, it may have been the mixing...perhaps I could have chilled the dough first...who knows.

You can check out Rachel's blog for the complete recipe, and be sure to check out how everyone else did here!

i always hate it when i'm disappointed with the result after spending time and ingredients, but it's nice to have someone in the house who loves them anyway! i think they look great, even if they are a little flat.

That was me last week. I've decided that most Dorie foods could do with a good chill. Glad someone liked them.

I am glad that your hubbie liked them. Mine did too, but I much preferred the batter.

They look fine! Maybe if you chill them they would not turn out so flat?

Do give these a try again, I loved them when I made them and I think I'm going to have to make them again soon after seen them all over the blogs! My only problem is not eating all the whoppers before they make it into the cookies.

I'm sorry you weren't too big a fan, but I'm glad your hubbie liked them :)

I think I over-softened my butter, because mine were not so much like the photo in Dorie's book ;) the good news is they are super delicious! I think yours came out well :O)

I think they look good! Something must have been right since Ugg wolfed them down! Its funny how everyone's tastes are so different! I probably would have done the same thing you did if I had used ovaltine.

They look fine! It just matters how they taste, right? :)

I think your cookies look absolutely gorgeous! I wasn't a fan of the flavor either, though!

I thought these were just okay. I guess I expected more. I kept eating them, though and had to put them in the freezer. I really enjoyed the dough!

Oh bummer that you didn't like them. I think they are worth a redo if you get the time. Have a great week and thanks for making my pick!

Sorry you didn't like them, but at least they made someone in your family happy -- always a good thing!

I did find that chilling the batter after shaping kept them from flattening as much.
